Welcome back to Azeroth After Dark. I'm Lyra, your anchor and the show's lore keeper, and to my left sits Durgan Stoutbrew, the dwarf who's been swinging an axe in Azeroth since launch day and knows the old world better than the maps do. Glad to be back on the couch, Lyra. I've been running those old zones since before half the roads existed, so a reimagined Azeroth is right up my alley. This round it's all WoW Forever, Blizzard's reimagined original Azeroth, and it's a beta sweep.
Horde walking into Dalaran, three new gear sets, a Wolfshead Helm nerf, a pile of Legacy Points. We start with the bug list. Icy Veins rounded up Blizzard's known issues list for October 8th on the Forever beta. Short version: it's all visual. Visual meaning what, exactly? Nothing that gets me killed in a cave somewhere? Right. Skyborne Druid bear and travel form got texture updates; cat form, various creatures in Zephras Isle, and some mounts and pets come in a future build.
Here's the whole list. There's a Hunter one as well. Does the pet actually lose critical strike chance? No, the character sheet just doesn't show the increase from the Ferocity talent, and Blizzard calls it a visual bug only. Some Professions window icons are broken too. So nothing to fix, just don't panic at your own stat sheet. Still on the beta. Blizzard's now clarified that Horde players strolling around Dalaran wasn't really the plan.
Horde in Dalaran? Put that on the big screen. For most of my life that city's been very much not for them. Wowhead reports developer Josh Greenfield posted on X that full Horde access isn't really intended and they'll be looking at it. Wowhead adds Horde getting Kirin Tor reputation is already fixed internally, but not until next week. So if you're Horde on the beta, go sightsee now. My bet is that door gets quietly shut, though Blizzard hasn't said when or how.
From a fix to a find. That same beta build turned up three brand new gear sets in the data, and they all look dungeon flavoured. Hold on. What's a set bonus, for the newer folks? It's an extra effect you get once you're wearing several pieces of the same armor set. The three here: the Defias Enforcer's Garb, the Violet Sorcerer's Vestments, and the Krol'dok Battlegear. That ogre set reads like a tank's holiday.
Look at the ladder on it, armor, defense, then two named effects. Wowhead says the names point at The Deadmines, City of Dalaran and Krol'dok Stronghold, and notes the Stronghold is a level 40 dungeon that hasn't been tested on the beta. It's datamined, so names and numbers can still move. Next up, a nerf, and Durgan, this is your era. The Wolfshead Helm's been nerfed in the latest Forever beta build.
Ah, the Wolfshead Helm, a level 40 Druid helm crafted by Leatherworkers. In Classic it fed you energy every time you shifted into Cat Form. Folks macroed in and out of form to farm it; they called it powershifting. In Forever it hooks into Shifting Power instead, a new ability that converts mana into energy. And look at the number, it's 5 bonus energy now, with the build listing the old value as 20.
Hard to be sad about it. Wowhead points out the helm was best in slot for all of Classic and most of Burning Crusade, and nobody wants one hat winning forever. So if your Druid plan revolved around that helm, rethink it. And it's beta, so the number can still move before launch. Back to Dalaran, because before that clarification, Wowhead walked through exactly how Horde players got inside. That's the bit I wanted.
How does a Horde adventurer actually get past those guards? You clear the new City of Dalaran dungeon, then finish the Heart of Disruption questline, which awards the Dalaran Sewer Key. After that, a quest called Shrewd Negotiations has you carry an Arcane Mote into the city for Archmage Celindra. And the guards go neutral once you've beaten the Archmage. So what's in there for a Horde player? Here's the list.
Supplies, Mage training, Hunter pet swaps at the stables, and fishing coins out of the fountain, though plenty of citizens won't serve you. So it's a new city to poke at on the beta, with the catch that Blizzard says it isn't really intended. Last story, and you can test this one right now. Blizzard has unlocked all 16 Legacy Points on the Forever beta. Alright, those are new to me. What are they, and why should a returning player care?
The Legacy System is account wide. You complete certain objectives, that frees up points in a talent tree, and you spend them on bonuses to Professions, Adventuring or Resourcefulness. 16 is the maximum you can unlock. Three trees, then. Wowhead's Legacy Calculator lays them out, and I know exactly which one a dwarf picks first. So it's a free sandbox. Blizzard's beta post says testing runs through October 21st, with launch on November 4th, so try builds now instead of guessing later.
That's the lineup, and it's really one picture: a beta mid flight. Bugs, datamined sets, a nerf, and a city door that may not stay open. This came from Wowhead and Icy Veins, with Blizzard's own words on the issues and the clarification, and the full posts are linked with the episode. Treat all of it as beta until it ships. Go spend your 16 points, and see you next time.
