WoW Forever goes live November 4th, and Blizzard just laid out everything that's coming with it! Welcome to Azeroth After Dark, I'm Aldric Vale, and next to me is Dorra Stonehymn, our Earthen dwarf co-anchor, carved from stone and fluent in patch notes. Somebody has to read the fine print, Aldric. You're getting the launch time, the Rulesets, two layering stories, a fresh podcast, a patch plan, and more.
First up, the whole launch in one place. Icy Veins rounded up Blizzard's full WoW Forever launch overview, and it covers everything, from the zones to the Skyborne to the camping and legacy systems! Here's the number that got me, Aldric. More than 1,000 new quests across the level 1 to 60 journey. More than a thousand new quests! Let's put some footage up on the big screen. So where do they all send us?
Mount Hyjal, Shen'dralas, the Riverglades and Zephras Isle. The Warcraft Wiki lists the first raids, Barrow Deeps, Hyjal Summit and Onyxia's Lair, unlocking December 9th. Plenty more in the full post. Want the exact moment to log in? Blizzard's own post has it, and it rethinks the realm list completely. Blizzard says Forever launches worldwide November 4th at 3 PM Pacific. And there's no traditional realm selection.
You start with a Ruleset instead. No realm list at all? Then how do I find my people? Pick Normal, PvP or Roleplay, and each one works as a broad player ecosystem. Your first login also asks for a Classic or Enhanced preset, and if you're unsure, Blizzard says go Enhanced. More in the full post. Next up, if beta layering drove you up the wall, stick around. Wowhead says joining a group won't automatically phase you anymore at launch!
On the Forever podcast, Principal Software Engineer Frank Williams said the beta algorithms were overaggressive. Now joining a group gives you a pop-up instead of just moving you. Wait, so I actually get a say? How long before it moves me? Within a certain time limit, says Wowhead. The post doesn't give the exact window. Williams tied it to Hardcore, too, and here's how he put it. From layering to a love letter for returning players.
Blizzard's welcome back guide is loaded! Nine new five-player dungeons, spanning levels 13 to 60. Six in the Eastern Kingdoms, three in Kalimdor. Nine new dungeons! Okay, Dorra, what's the PvP crowd getting? Darkspear Islands, a new 15 versus 15 battleground off the coast of Dustwallow Marsh, levels 30 to 60. And look at this number. First team to 2,000 points wins. Back to layering, because Wowhead caught a second story from that podcast, and this one's about massive world PvP battles!
Frank Williams said there might be a whiteboard on campus with megaraid scrawled on it. They're also thinking about servers that expand slightly to keep big battles flowing. A megaraid? I'm already polishing my armor. Is any of it in at launch? No. He said the state at the end of the beta is what you can expect for launch. And zone to zone layering will still happen, they're just tuning which zones connect.
Icy Veins pulled the highlights from that same episode, and one's a feature the community's already been playing with at its own events. Proximity chat. The developers would love to bring it to the game. Nothing to announce right now, but never say never. Never say never! I'm holding them to that. What else came out of it? Rulesets stay fully separate, even for dungeons, and no major holiday event updates for launch.
Also, Australian players want their own day-night cycle, so the devs want feedback. If you'd rather hear it straight from the source, Blizzard's official post has the whole tech episode ready to watch. Host Countdown To Classic and guest Shobek talk tech with Josh Aggrend Greenfield, Ana Resendez and Frank Williams. Icy Veins says the next one, all about lore, lands November 12th. A whole episode on lore?
Now that's my kind of show. Dorra, bring us home with something you'll love. A schedule. Wowhead reports Forever is aiming for a four month patch cadence. Let's get that up on the big screen. Why four months, though? Principal Game Designer Kris Zierhut told I G N that Season of Discovery patches every eight to ten weeks felt way too fast. So they're aiming for about one every 4 months, or 17 weeks.
Seventeen weeks between big patches? So we just wait around in between? No. He says content will unlock in between, one, two or three months in. And PvP Seasons last 4 months to match. What a lineup. A launch date, a reimagined Azeroth, friendlier layering, and a steady patch plan, all for WoW Forever. These stories came from Blizzard, Wowhead and Icy Veins, plus the Warcraft Wiki, and the full posts are linked with the episode.
